SS 316 / 316L is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade offering superior corrosion resistance to chlorides and industrial atmospheres compared to 304, making it the preferred choice for marine, chemical processing and pharmaceutical applications. 316L, the low-carbon variant, is used for welded assemblies to avoid sensitisation.
